A grieving therapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks
Disregarding his training and ethics, he finds himself making massive changes in people’s lives, including his own. The ‘Shrinking’ cast shares their best character-defining moments from Season 1 and reveals who has the best Harrison Ford impersonation. When asked how Harrison Ford was brought into the show with Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and that he was going to test people who resembled Ford.
Segal told Goldstein that they should at least take it to Ford first, who he thought would immediately decline, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been brought on board the project, sparking interest from other notable actors. Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and convinced him about the role. Goldstein still didn’t understand what he had done to convince him, but he was glad.
This is because I discovered that there is something real about a therapist who needs therapy and unexpectedly wants to make progress with their patients to overcome their problems. I also respect the way it’s presented – he’s not doing what other therapists are supposed to do, that’s very clear. It hasn’t gotten into the silly situations of other shows like Heist, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching it.
Having said that, I appreciate the depth of the characters who don’t look like caricatures; These are the people I want to know. The season finale of “What We Do in the Shadows” is the biggest TV and streaming premiere of the month. Check out our October calendar for more information!
