Hodge is the third actor to play Cross, following in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first played him on screen in the 1997 film “Girls Kiss” and again in the 2001 sequel “And the lesson came”; and Tyler Perry as the titular character in 2012’s Alex Cross, which flopped at the box office and forced Lionsgate to cancel a planned sequel, Double Cross.
But the series sometimes gains momentum, then declines with a protracted 8-episode cycle that does not justify its duration.
Ryan Eggold, Samantha Walkes and Isaiah Mustafa shine in their supporting roles, but it is Eloise Mumford and Karen Robinson who attract attention and even manage to attract the attention of the outstanding lead actor Aldis Hodge.
